Is this a Religion?
IS there a religion underpinning the Spiritual Breath® exercises? Religion today means the voluntary subjection of oneself to God. This definition is long thought to be rooted in the Latin religare “to bind”. But this is likely in error, as the true Latin root is relegere which means not to bind, but rather to reconsider or realign. In the original sense, meaning realignment, then the teachings of the Holy Breath Institute ("Holy Breath") do form the basis of a religion. Consecrating® prayer and the spiritual breath® exercises as taught by Holy Breath are a realignment of our spirit with the Christ Spirit.
Basic Tenets: The purpose of Holy Breath is to teach the worship of and communion with the Christ and Father in spirit by means of consecrating prayer and the spiritual breath exercises. As proclaimed by the Holy Spirit, this is a new prayer method to move your spirit to the Christ and the Father. Holy Breath teaches that there is an aspect of the Holy Spirit, the Living Breath® consciousness, within each one of us. That consciousness is like a river and can be ridden home by our spirit to the Christ and the Father. The spiritual breath exercises, when practiced diligently and assiduously as part of consecrating prayer, provide access to the Living Breath consciousness. Holy Breath teaches that one can become conscious of being one with the Christ and the Father in this lifetime, transcend death and know the ecstasy of the Christ and the peace of the Father.
Practices: A physical anchoring of the Holy Spirit—the Living Breath consciousness--along with some initial instruction and intention to practice, is all that is formally required to become a Holy Breath student. The individual practice of consecrating prayer with spiritual breath exercises for (eventually) 1-2 hours per day is strongly encouraged. There are no requirements as to diet, clothing, grooming, jewelry, etc. Ingesting substances with an intention of altering consciousness is strongly discouraged as it injures or even terminates this aspect of the work of the Holy Spirit with the individual.
Worship: Worship of the Christ and Father in spirit is through consecrating prayer and the spiritual breath exercises, which are performed voluntarily by individuals. Holy Breath students learn these forms of worship through print media, audio and visual communication media along with in-person group classes. There are no group or community worship services.
Is Holy Breath a religion? Yes. It is not a religious community, but rather teaches a realigning of one’s spirit with the Christ Spirit and the Father. It is a religion where students are guided by the Living Breath consciousness of the Holy Spirit in their individual efforts to discover their eternal spirit and realign it with the Christ Spirit and ultimately with the Father.
